History

Opened on the 4th of July in 1876 as a gathering place for loggers, ranchers, and farmers who frequented the Olema Valley, the Olema Inn was once a part of a 9,000 acre rancho that was granted to Raphael Garcia by the Mexican government. Garcia's son, Felix, ultimately lost the Inn in a gambling debt to John Nelson, who operated the stagecoach line to San Raphael. Three generations of Nelsons ran the Inn, which was one of the few buildings in the area to survive the infamous 1906 earthquake.

The building was then restored to its original beauty in 1998 when its past owners, Dana and Jennifer Sulprizio purchased it. They opened The Olema Inn & Restaurant in 1999. Their remodeling efforts included installing a 100-year-old pine floor, salvaged from a 19th century tobacco warehouse in Virginia. The floor sets the stage for a memorable dining and lodging experience, in the middle of a storied northern California landmark.

Current owners John and Carole Wiltshire took over The Olema Inn & Restaurtant in May 2007. During the start of the following year, the restaurant's kitchen went through a complete remodeling.
